CREATING YOUR WEB PAGE
An Introduction
When I left my teaching job at Calcutta to join my husband in Bombay, I knew very well that I was taking a great risk. The city was unfamiliar and I felt old and exhausted to search a new job all over again. Moreover, I was tired of teaching and wanted something new, challenging and exciting. At that juncture I was offered a job as member of the teaching faculty at a computer center. I accepted it readily as it offered the novelty I was seeking. Little did I know that I was stepping into a whole new world that would keep me entranced for the rest of my life!
I taught my students the basics of computers for two hours. The rest of the time I fiddled with the idea of web designing and creating web pages. I surfed the net to gather information on web pages. I visited sites that offered free spaces. I created my web page with the help of the sitebuilders offered by them. And at last I had my URL that would take me to my page by the click of a key.
My own page!!.... I flaunted it wherever I could. People were impressed and I was filled with pride.
Soon I realized that I did literally nothing to create my page. I did not 'create', I just selected.
It was then that I concentrated on learning HTML and developing a page on the Front Page Express. I toiled hard learning step by step and finally created my page. When I published it on the net I felt at last that I had the right to say to myself, "Well, that is a web page created by me!
Wouldn't you like to say the same? Then join me in this easy tutorial on web page designing. I'll see that you don't make the mistakes that had deterred my progress. After all, I didn't have a tutor to guide me. You have!
So why not get started?
Lesson 1
Open Front Page Express. Go to FORMAT and click on BACKGROUND. Select the background color or wallpaper. Next go to FONT and choose the matching type, color and size. Return to your page and get ready to type your text.
Lesson 2
Always give a title to your page. It will give your readers an idea of the contents of your page. You can select HEADING1 or you can settle on your own Font choice. If you wish, you can have bullets before the beginning of every paragraph. You can also insert pictures from CLIP ART or your own paintings from a file or even a photograph after passing it through a scanner.
Lesson 3
After you have finished composing your page remember to SAVE it in WORD. Next click on SAVE AS HTML. Done? Now go to VIEW WEB TOOLBAR and click on the address. You reach your web page.
